News items are published when they are approved and their publish dates arrive. News items are published on your site, on the following pages:
When your department set up its News CMS account, NIS created the news templates for your headline groups, news items page, and news archive. If you need to update those templates, please contact NIS.
If the news item contains timely information, such as an announcement of a department meeting, you may want to have the item removed from headline groups once the relevant date has passed. To have the item removed a certain date, enter an archive date for the item.
When an item's archive date arrives, the item is removed from any headline groups in which it has been listed. It will continue to be listed on your site's news archive page.
Note: In the future, there will be a University News Archive that will list all published news items for all departments across the University. All news items, including ones you enter now, will be available from this archive.
If you accidentally or intentionally enter an archive date before the current date or before the publish date, a message appears asking if are you sure you want to do this. When the archive date comes before the current date or the publish date, the item will appear only in your news archive and not in any headline groups.
If you want to have a news item removed from your site, from both headline groups and the news archive, open the item and changes its status to Unpublished. Once you click Save, the item will be available only from the News CMS system. Unpublished items do not appear anywhere on the BU Web.
