Adding News Items

To add a news item, click Add in the navigation bar. The Add News Item page will appear. Then follow these steps:

  1. Select the topics for which the item should appear. Note: If you select a subtopic, the item will appear also for the topics to which the subtopic belongs on your site's news archive.
  2. Enter a headline (required). If you enter a headline longer than 80 characters, you must also enter a short headline. See Entering Headlines.
  3. Enter a subheading (optional).
  4. If the author is someone other than yourself, select that person in the Author list. If your department uses "Staff," select Staff from the bottom of the list. If you select Byline, the byline field becomes available and you can enter a name manually; this name will appear for the Author field in your site's templates. Note: The Author field is available only for specific departments.
  5. Enter a brief description (optional).
  6. Enter the body of the item (required). See Formatting Text.
  7. Click one or more of the images buttons to upload an image for the item. See Adding Images.
  8. Select the status. Note: You must be an administrator to be able to select the Approved or Unpublished statuses.
  9. Select the publish date (required). To have the item published immediately after it is approved, select "Immediately when approved" to publish the item on a specific date after it is approved, select the second option and enter a date. See Publishing News Items.
  10. Enter an archive date (optional). See Publishing News Items.
  11. To spell-check content in the Headline, Brief Description, and Body fields, click Spell. The spell checker opens in a pop-up window.
  12. To preview the news item using your news item page template, click Preview. The preview opens in a new window.
  13. Click Save to save the item. The Add News Item page closes and the View page is displayed, showing the item you just added.

Note: If your browser is set to block pop-up ads, you may need to allow pop-ups for the News CMS in order to see the Preview window. See your browser or ad-blocker documentation for more information.
